I’m Elizabeth Jane Austin, but please call me Lizzie.

My love of art came from my early childhood. My mum deprived us of TV and thus gifted us full use of our imaginations and creativity. My siblings an I drew for hours on end, and I think this is where my skills started to develop.

Still I followed the age-old advice that art would never be a career- and, apart from life drawing, left my art on the shelf for many years whilst I pursued other loves- namely midwifery, travel and yoga.

It took me up to my mid-thirties to start art study in earnest. I found the Julian Ashton art school near me and, walking in to the rooms on George street, I felt I was home. I took night classes when my kids were little, and loved every minute of it.

I was fortunate to be granted the John Olsen scholarship there in 2018. Since then I have been painting portraits, landscape and still life. I have even dabbled a bit in some abstract work. I have built up a body of paintings primarily in oils, which are on offer here for sale along with some drawings and gouache. More will be added as I continue to paint throughout the year.
